Verified before they teach
A tutor can’t appear in search, message a family, or accept a booking until they clear our checks.
The vetting pipeline
Becoming a Houselewa tutor is a process, not a sign-up form. Here’s what everyone passes through.
Every tutor confirms their identity with an official government ID before anything else.
We review the qualifications and teaching experience a tutor lists, so their profile reflects reality.
Tutors pass a background screening appropriate to their country before they’re cleared to teach.
Only once every step is cleared does a tutor go live — and earn the verified check badge.
Verified tutors carry a check badge on their profile. If a tutor’s credentials lapse or a serious concern is raised, we can suspend them from the platform.
Safe payments
When you book, your payment goes into escrow — held by Houselewa, not handed to the tutor. We only release it after the session is delivered. No cash changing hands, no paying strangers up front.
How escrow works
Three simple steps
You pay when you book. The money is held safely by Houselewa.
Your tutor teaches the lesson, online or in-home.
Only then is payment released to the tutor.
Safe communication
Keeping chat inside Houselewa is what lets us protect you. Move off-platform and you lose escrow, records, and our ability to step in.
Phone numbers and email addresses are automatically hidden in chat and shared content, so conversations stay where they’re protected.
Messages and shared material are screened for abuse and unsafe content, and you can report anything that doesn’t feel right.
Safe sessions
However your child learns, the lesson runs inside safeguards you can see.
Lessons run in-app
Video and the shared whiteboard run inside Houselewa — no swapping numbers or moving to another app.
One-tap panic button
A panic button is available during every live session to flag a problem instantly.
Recording with consent
A session is only recorded when everyone consents — never silently, never by surprise.
Safety codes
Each in-home lesson has a safety code you share with your tutor to confirm the right person has arrived.
Geofenced check-in
Tutors check in at your address, so you know exactly when the lesson starts and ends.
Child-safety code of conduct
Every tutor accepts our child-safety code of conduct before they teach — covering appropriate behaviour, boundaries, and how to report a concern. Break it and access is revoked.
Your data & privacy
We collect only what a lesson needs, never sell your data, and give you control over what you share. You can review your privacy choices any time.
